The benefits of Candelilla wax

At TREW, it is important for us to create 100% natural and vegan products. That is why we use Candelilla wax as an alternative to beeswax in our lip balms. what are its benefits ?

What is Candelilla Wax?

Candelilla wax is a vegetable wax with protective and film-forming properties. It is often used to develop rich and protective cares. It is found in the composition of

,solid deodorants, body or hair balms.

Where does it come from?

Candelilla wax is obtained from a small shrub native to Mexico. It is secreted by the leaves of the tree in order to protect it from external aggressions and to prevent water evaporation in very dry areas.

Place of Candelilla wax in cosmetic products

Having a high melting point, around 70°C, the texture of Candelilla wax is quite hard and brittle. It is therefore ideal for hardening and texturizing cosmetic products. It also allows lipstick, cream, deodorant… or mascara to resist heat. Candelilla wax also adds shine, making it an essential ingredient in

Its benefits for the skin

The protective film of Candelilla wax is really effective in retaining water and therefore prevents dehydration, which explains why it is present in the TREW lip balms. We can say that it is therefore necessary to allow the cosmetic to block the various external aggressions. Especially since the wax easily penetrates the skin and can deely nourish and treat it. Another positive point of this wax, is that it can be used on all skin types, even the most sensitive. The fact that it is emollient allows the skin to be softened and made more supple.

The composition of Candelilla wax

Candelilla wax is made of:

  • Hydrocarbons : about 50%
  • Free fatty acids : 7 to 9%
  • Esters : 20 to 29%
  • Resins : 12 to 14%

However, this composition may vary depending on the species of Candelilla, its age and the year of harvest.
Fatty acids are often used to strengthen the skin barrier, maintain a good level of skin hydration, fight against inflammation, help healing, and fight against free radicals, responsible for skin ageing.
Esters are emollient and can form a greasy film on the epidermis. They soften, improve elasticity and preserve the skin's hydration.

There you go ! Candelilla wax no longer holds holds secrets for you.

At TREW, we place great importance on being transparent with our customers, that is why we take the time to explain the composition of our products. As the cosmetics sector is relatively opaque, we want to allow/enable our users to know and understand what are they applying on/to their skin. This is why we propose in all transparency simple and effective compositions by focusing only on the essentials. We respect our skin and our planet with our
